British Standards for Panic & Emergency Hardware

EN 1125 - PANIC EXIT APPLICATIONS

All final escape doors which are used bt the members of the public are catagorised as PANIC EXIT DOORS and must be fitted with escape hardware that has been certified to European Standard EN1125.
The standard is for all push bar and touch bar devices which can be used in any enviroment open to members of the public and are distinct from Emergency Exit doors by virtue of the fact that they must provide 'safe and effective escape through a doorway with minimum effort and without prior knowledge of operation'

EN 179 - EMERGENCY EXIT APPLICATIONS

Applications where a final exit door is to be used only by trained personnel it is catagorised as an EMERGENCY EXIT DOOR and must be certified to European Standard EN1179.
The standard is intented for such areas as places of work which are not accessible to members of the public. Emergency exit devices can be operated by push padds and lever handles
